Dr. Bederman – Spine Surgeon in Orange County
Dr. Bederman helps patients return to productive and fulfilling lives by treating their spinal deformities brought on by developmental and degenerative causes and those following traumatic, post-surgical, and cancer-related conditions. He specializes in adult and pediatric complex spinal reconstruction and minimally invasive cervical, thoracic, and lumbar techniques. UC Irvine Spine Center aims to improve people’s lives by giving them the compassionate and individualized care that enables our patients and families to return to an enjoyable life. Our multidisciplinary team emphasizes non-surgical care and is committed to treating the whole patient and their family, not just your condition.
Drs. Samuel Bederman and Nitin Bhatia are the first surgeons on the west coast to use the SpineAssist Robot for spine surgery. It has now been in use since March 2011 and has improved the accuracy of spinal instrumentation used for spinal fusions, fractures, and scoliosis surgery. UC Irvine, a world recognized leader in robotic surgery is the only site on the west coast to have this advanced technology.
It is considered a breakthrough compared with traditional techniques. The robot allows for highly accurate preoperative planning and insertion of screws used to stabilize the spine and correct deformities. Although it can be used for minimally invasive techniques, Bederman believes this technology is most beneficial in situations of severe deformity or previous fusions in which the normal anatomy has been distorted.
As the only university-based medical center in Orange County, our program brings together specialists in neurosurgery, orthopaedic surgery, neurology, physiatry, anesthesiology, pain medicine, physical medicine and other specialties to design the most effective treatment for each patient. The UCI Spine Center provides care for Orange County and the surrounding communities including Irvine, Newport Beach, Corona del Mar, Laguna Nigel, Garden Grove, Fountain Valley, Santa Ana, Fullerton, Westminster, Huntington Beach, Costa Mesa, Long Beach, Anaheim, Brea, Mission Viejo, Temecula, Fallbrook, Hemet, Los Angeles, and Riverside.
